Environmental Remediation

Environmental Remediation

LTC Construction is a global leader in environmental remediation solutions. We were one of the first construction companies to recognise and identify the growing need for hazardous waste remediation and we have been at the forefront of the industry for years. That’s the reason why we are committed to protecting and restoring the environment back to healthy ecological levels on a local, national and international scale.

After extensive research, our highly-trained and experienced technical staff developed innovative standard operating procedures and equipment to remove, transport and dispose of dangerous waste products in a way that not only minimises environmental water and soil pollution, but also considers the cost to human and animal health.

Our operations are known to meet all local and international regulatory frameworks and laws, which is why we are trusted and preferred by many legitimate organisations. Our best practices, history and technical expertise guarantee we will meet all safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

No matter how tough your environmental problem is we know we can support your project in the most cost and time-effective way. We aim to support you all the way from planning through delivery and project evaluation.

What is a remediation service?

Remediation services involve all aspects of reversing and stopping environmental damage at a site that is considered contaminated at present. The purpose is not only to protect the environment but also human and animal health. This can include removing pollutants from the soil and water surfaces at all levels.

What are environmental remediation services?

Once it has been verified by a state or federal agency that environmental remediation is required at your site you need to find a specialised contractor who will plan, budget, and organise all aspects of the project. From experts and equipment all the way to scheduling the whole process to meet regulatory frameworks, our team at LTC Construction will be by your side from day one. We will also take care of any clean-up and follow-ups necessary to make sure the job is completed to the highest standard and quality.

What are environmental remediation liabilities?

These revolve around the cost or a penalty a company may face for not adhering to environmental best-practices and as such receives a fine for polluting water and soil levels.

Why is environmental remediation important?

It’s important because it assures our ground, surface water, and soil levels remain free of ionizing radiation, as well as other hazardous and non-hazardous materials which can include oil spills. Thus, human health and that of all living organisms remains free of any harmful effects.

What is another word for remediation?

Redress or amending.

What is an example of remediation?

Cleaning up the water supply. Industrial site clean-ups. Cleaning up former military bases and petroleum sites.

How long does it take to remediate soil?

Approximately three weeks. It takes about 7 to 10 days to test the soil and get back the results, and then two weeks to receive the report which outlines the course of action. Excavation of the soil only takes one day after that.

What are some remediation techniques?

They can be divided into five categories of in-situ and ex-situ processes:

1.   Thermal Desorption: An ex-situ process which utilizes hot oil or steam through a drilling device to heat the soil indirectly. The increased temperature erupts or melts substances in a way that makes it possible to remove contaminants from the solid patterns of the soil.

2.   Surfactant Enhanced Aquifer Remediation (SEAR): It involves injecting a chemical solution across the surface that is polluted and pumping out poisons and waste from an extraction point.

3.   In-situ oxidation: Uses chemical oxidants like Peroxide to change harmful waste into less toxic by pumping the chemical into contaminants until they gradually dissolve.

4.   Soil Vapor Extraction and Air Sparging: An in-situ remediation process that uses a vacuum to suck out pollutants while at the same time uses air underneath the surface to push contaminants up and out.

5.  Nanoremediation: Small sized particles are injected into the contaminated spot and because of their small size they’re able to pervade very small spaces and in time degrade contaminants through redox reactions. This process is also able to immobilize toxic materials like lead.

What are some remediation strategies?

Their aim is to restore or enhance ecological value of land and water. Either one or a combination of techniques is used to bring back the environment to its original state.

Soil excavation and disposal to landfill and groundwater pump-and-treat are some examples of strategies that are used.

What is a remediation plan?

It is about providing a solution for an environmental problem. This needs to be done to a level that it protects the health of people and animals. The plan will take into consideration the level of damage to the land or resource and accordingly chose the best practices that can restore this back to safety levels.

How much does soil remediation cost?

Cost varies from project to project depending on a plethora of factors, but the table below outlines how much it can generally cost you on average.

Remedial OptionCost per acre-foot
Combining and covering polluted soil on-site $1,000 – $2,000
Topping contaminated soil with clean soil$6,000 – $13,000
Mixing with clean soil from on-site$1,000 – $2,000
Combining with clean soil from off-site$7,000 – $15,000
Unearthing and and removing of impure soil$31,000 -$ 85,000
Validated and advanced soil treatment technologies$40,000- $120,000
